Permanentmagnet like Marklin 235690 (DCM Motor)
Permanentmagnet like Marklin 235690;
for Armature 231440; D=18.0mm; for Motorcover 231350
This magnet is used for the Drum Commutator Motors (DCM). You can recognize the DCM motors by the brushes. look at the motor cover. If there are 2 small carbon brushes on each side of the motor (3 and 9 o'clock position), and these brushes are identical, you have a DCM motor. Most of the more recent locomotives have a DCM motor.
If one of the brushes is made out of a fine weave copper (it almost looks like a tiny, tiny fuel filter), you have a Flat Commutator Motor. There are commonly two sizes in these, large and small. They each use different parts.
Your Marklin motor needs to be converted to DC, so that you can use it with a decoder.
-Use this magnet to do a simple conversion to DC. You will keep your 3 pole armature. At very slow speeds, the motor may run a little rough, but in general the results should be good.
-The alternative is to do a complete 5-pole upgrade to your motor. In that case you have to buy a new magnet, armature (5-pole) and motor cover. This upgrade will improve the running characteristics of your locomotive, especially at slow speeds.
Parts needed for 5 pole conversion:

- Magnet Marklin 389000
- Motor Cover Marklin 386940
- Chokes Marklin 516520
